Gladiators were professional fighters who fought in fierce and gruesome battles to entertain huge crowds. This popular form of entertainment originated in Ancient Rome in 264 BC but soon became popular throughout the Roman Empire. Gladiators usually fought to the death in a bid to thrill the blood thirsty spectators.
